Hegyvidék Advent Market 2026: Christmas Crafts, Concerts and Family Fun in Buda

Looking for a Budapest Christmas market beyond the city centre’s best-known festive squares? The Hegyvidék Advent Market brings handmade gifts, winter flavours and family entertainment to Buda’s District 12 from November 27 to December 23, 2026. Held in the district’s Town Hall Square, at 23–25 Böszörményi Road, it offers a neighbourhood setting for an afternoon of browsing, tasting and getting into the Christmas spirit.
Alongside the market stalls, visitors can enjoy concerts, children’s performances, Advent candle-lighting ceremonies and a free carousel. A new heated craft cabin adds another reason to stay a little longer, with weekend activities where children and adults can make their own Christmas decorations.
Handmade Gifts and Christmas Finds
The stalls bring together a varied selection of crafts and seasonal gifts. Expect ceramics, candles, woven textiles, handmade wooden toys, soaps and Christmas decorations, alongside leather and shearling clothing, mineral pieces and practical household items.
It’s the kind of market where browsing is part of the pleasure. You might find a small ornament to take home, a handmade toy for a younger family member or something useful with a little more character than a conventional souvenir.
Food gifts are well represented, too, with chocolates, honey-based specialities, craft beers, speciality coffees, cheeses and Christmas cakes adding plenty of temptation between the craft stalls.

Come Hungry for Hungarian Winter Flavours
The food selection gives you a good excuse to turn a quick visit into a leisurely meal. Traditional chimney cake, known locally as kürtőskalács, joins grilled sausages, hot drinks and sweet treats, while cheese fondue and a chocolate fountain add to the indulgence.
For visitors curious about Hungarian market food, this is also an opportunity to try lángos, a deep-fried flatbread, or kenyérlángos, an oven-baked flatbread. Those with a sweet tooth can look out for császármorzsa, a shredded pancake-style dessert.
With pizza and other familiar options also available, there’s enough variety to keep different tastes happy without everyone having to order the same thing.
A Free Carousel and Weekend Craft Activities
Families are a particular focus of the Hegyvidék Advent Market. The free carousel runs throughout the market period, opening from 3 pm to 8 pm on weekdays and from 10 am to 8 pm at weekends. Children’s theatre and concerts add further reasons to plan a weekend visit.
This year’s new heated craft cabin offers a cosy place to get creative. Every weekend, adults and children can make Christmas decorations, adding a hands-on activity to the usual shopping and snacking.
The opening Saturday, November 28, includes a children’s performance by Majorka Theatre at 10:30 am, followed by the official market opening and a drawing competition awards ceremony from 11 am. Later that afternoon, Belvárosi Betyárok brings children’s entertainment to the stage at 4 pm.
Another family highlight comes on Sunday, December 6. A children’s performance begins at 10:30 am, with a visit from St Nicholas afterwards. Spoken theatre and storytelling may be less accessible to visitors who do not speak Hungarian, while the carousel, craft activities and visual performances offer other ways to join in.
Evening Concerts and a Dazzling Fire Show
Music gives the market an extra reason to linger after dark. Bokros Band opens the concert programme on Friday, November 27, from 6 pm to 7 pm, followed by Bálint Gájer at the same time on Saturday, November 28. DuoCorde Guitar performs on Sunday, November 29, also from 6 pm to 7 pm.
The following weekend brings Balance Wheel Group on December 4, Napfonat on December 5 and Misztrál on December 6, with each concert scheduled for 6 pm to 7 pm. Dénes Pál takes the stage on Friday, December 11, during the same evening slot.
For something particularly visual, the Tűzmadarak troupe presents FLOW WHITE, an LED and fire show, on December 3 and December 10 from 5:30 pm to 6 pm. These performances are especially easy to enjoy without knowing Hungarian.
Advent Candle-Lighting and Neighbourhood Traditions
The market also makes room for the quieter traditions of the season. On November 29 and December 6, an Advent programme begins at 4 pm, followed by candle-lighting at 4:30 pm. Local church communities take part, and the Oriolus Chamber Choir contributes to the December 6 programme.
Local-history walks are scheduled on both Sundays from 2 pm to 4 pm. These add a neighbourhood perspective to the festivities, although English-language guiding is not specified in the programme, so international visitors should check the language and participation arrangements beforehand.
Together with performances by local schools and kindergartens, these events give the market a community character that distinguishes it from a purely shopping-focused Christmas outing.
Plan Your Visit
Weekend mornings suit families looking for children’s performances and carousel rides, while late afternoon offers a chance to combine browsing with evening entertainment. On the first two Advent Sundays, arriving before 4 pm also lets you experience the candle-lighting programme.
The performances highlighted here cover November 27 to December 11, but the market itself continues until December 23. If you’re visiting later in the season, check the updated programme for events during your stay.
The location is District 12’s Town Hall Square on the Buda side of Budapest, rather than the similarly named City Hall locations in Pest. Use the street address when planning your journey to avoid confusion.
