Budapest Reclaims Its Title as the “Paris of the East” with the New Budapest Varieté

Budapest Varieté

A Legendary Art Form Returns to Budapest

After more than three decades away, the variety show is back in Budapest. This November, the Budapest Varieté opens on the rooftop garden of the Westend shopping centre, fittingly in the same district where the legendary Budapesti Moulin Rouge once dazzled audiences. Behind the project are husband-and-wife producers Sebastian Richter and Krisztina Eötvös, both from renowned circus dynasties, who set out with one ambitious goal: to help Budapest reclaim its early twentieth-century nickname, the “Paris of the East.”

The Essentials at a Glance

  • Location: rooftop garden of the Westend shopping centre, inside a purpose-built Spiegeltent called the Dinner & Show Palace
  • Season: November 6, 2026 through January 3, 2027, with 30 performances total
  • Showtimes: most evenings, dinner starts at 18:30 and the show begins at 20:00, ending around 22:00; Sunday shows start earlier, with dinner at 17:30 and curtain-up at 19:00
  • Format: two 50-minute acts with a 20-minute intermission; the full evening with dinner runs about 3.5 hours
  • Tickets: show-only from roughly 5,900 to 21,900 forints; dinner-inclusive packages from about 28,000 to 44,000 forints
  • Language: no Hungarian required, the show relies on visual spectacle, music, and comedy
  • Special editions: Christmas Dinner Show on December 26 and a New Year’s Eve Dinner Show on December 31 with a midnight toast and dancing until 2 a.m.

A One-Of-A-Kind Rooftop Venue

The show takes place inside a Spiegeltent, an elegant mirror-tent format with a long tradition across Western Europe, the US, and Australia, but placing one atop a shopping mall is a world first. The tent seats up to 350 guests at tables rather than theatre rows, with two stages connected by a catwalk and tiered seating ensuring clear sightlines throughout. Velvet drapery, gilded details, and mirrored surfaces recreate the glamour of early twentieth-century revue theatres.

An International Cast and a Curated Menu

The production, titled Vegas the Show, brings performers from four continents, including Patrick Lemoine, a star comedian from the Paris Lido making his Hungarian debut, the award-winning Hermanos Latinos acrobats from Mexico, and former Cirque du Soleil aerialist Bogdán Bettina. Dinner comes courtesy of chef Krisztián Balogh of the Budapest Party Service and VakVarjú restaurant family, with three menu options: the hearty ShowMan, the elegant ShowGirl, and the fully plant-based Las Vegan.

Given that several premium categories for early dates are already sold out, early booking is recommended for visitors hoping to combine an evening of Vegas-style glamour with their Budapest trip.
