Breaking! – The Musical Fountain of Margaret Island Will be Shut Down Tonight

One of the city’s most beloved free attractions is going to be shut down tonight! The iconic Musical Fountain of Margaret Island began its 2026 shows on May 1st, 2026, and was scheduled to run through to October 31st, filling the island’s air with music, water, and light every single day.

However, due to the incredible heatwave that hit the country this week, officials made a responsible choice: in order to preserve water and energy, Budapest’s municipal authorities began shutting down every fountain and other public water spectacles within their control.

The authorities did not disclose how long these aquatic attractions will be shut down. They understand that this was probably a shock to all, as shutting down the fountains have never been necessary before! They ask for the public-‘s understanding and patience in these demanding times.

Although not clarified, all hope that these measures will only be temporary and we can all soon enjoy these marvelous and refreshing spectacles soon!
