Makers’ Market at Fény Street Market – Budapest’s Best Handmade Market Is Back

Makers' Market at Fény Street Market

If you’re in Budapest on Saturday, May 24, 2026, clear your morning and head to the Fény Street Market in the second district. The Makers’ Market is one of the city’s most beloved independent design markets, and for one day only, nearly 100 Hungarian designers and makers are taking over the space with their freshest work. It runs from 10:00 to 17:00, it’s free to explore, and it’s exactly the kind of thing that makes Budapest feel like Budapest.

What Is the Makers’ Market?

The Makers’ Market is a curated one-day design fair that brings together some of Hungary’s most talented independent creators under one roof. This isn’t a generic souvenir market — every single vendor is a maker, designer, or small-batch producer, and everything on display has been made with genuine care and craft. Whether you’re hunting for a one-of-a-kind gift, a piece of wearable art, or simply something beautiful to take home, you’ll find it here.

The market takes place inside and around the Fény utcai Piac (Fény Street Market), a neighbourhood favourite in Buda’s second district. The venue has real character — a proper Budapest market hall that feels lived-in and local, a world away from the touristy shopping strips along the Danube.

Handmade Goods Across Every Category

With close to 100 vendors on the day, the range is genuinely impressive:

  • Graphics and art prints — original illustrations and limited-edition prints by Hungarian artists
  • Ceramics — handthrown and hand-painted pieces ranging from functional to sculptural
  • Jewellery — wearable, contemporary designs you won’t find in any chain store
  • Fashion and accessories — independent Hungarian designers bringing their latest collections
  • Home décor — thoughtfully made pieces for people who care about what they surround themselves with
  • Gastro and deli treats — carefully selected food and drink from small producers, perfect for a snack while you browse

Meet the Makers

One of the best things about this market is that the people behind the work are right there in front of you. You can ask a ceramicist how a piece was made, hear a textile designer explain where their fabric comes from, or simply chat with someone who has poured months of work into what they’re selling. It’s a completely different experience from buying online or in a shop, and it’s the kind of connection that makes a purchase genuinely memorable.

TAXITURI – Shopping with a Purpose

This edition of the Makers’ Market also welcomes TAXITURI, the community clothing sale run by the Adománytaxi foundation. Since 2015, Adománytaxi has collected donated goods from Budapest households and delivered them to people in need in smaller, disadvantaged communities across Hungary — working with around 700 volunteers and reaching over 5,000 households to date. TAXITURI is their charity clothing sale, where the most special pieces from donated wardrobes are offered for purchase, with all proceeds going back into the foundation’s work. It’s a great way to pick up something unique while supporting a genuinely impactful cause.

Music and Good Vibes All Day

The market has a soundtrack. DJ Donne Jep and Kisjankó will be spinning records throughout the day, keeping the atmosphere relaxed, warm, and just the right side of lively. Think Sunday morning energy — unhurried, sociable, and genuinely enjoyable even if you don’t buy a thing.

Dogs are very welcome too, so feel free to bring your four-legged travel companion along.

Come early for the best selection, stay for the music, and leave with something you’ll actually treasure.
