Saying Farewell to Summer This Weekend
As the summer comes to a close, Budapest is gearing up for an exciting final weekend filled with a variety of events and activities. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
First on the list is the annual “Szentendre Éjjel-nappal nyitva!” (Szentendre Open Day and Night) festival, taking place from August 30th to September 1st in the heart of Szentendre. This beloved event showcases the true spirit of the city, with most activities being free of charge. Visitors can explore the popular “Houses, Courtyards, and Hosts” program series, join guided city walks, enjoy children’s activities, theater performances, concerts, light shows in the main square, film screenings, and exhibitions. While some events in the “Houses, Courtyards, and Hosts” series require tickets, the majority of the programs are free!
Next up is the BartókFeszt, happening all day on Saturday, August 31st along Bartók Béla Street. This festival is a celebration of the Bartók Quarter and what it represents in our daily lives – connections, culture, and flavors. Local residents, organizations, and service providers come together to create a lovable, livable, homely, and inspiring neighborhood. The festival will take over Szent Gellért Square and the Műegyetem riverbank, offering 40 programs for children and adults, creatives, world-changers, and those seeking relaxation, along with 7 grand concerts. It’s a free event not to be missed!
For those interested in a unique experience, the Városliget Rescue Day is happening on Saturday, August 31st from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the City Park’s Nagyrét. This event features spectacular retro and modern rescue demonstrations, CPR training, craft activities for children, exciting lectures, concerts, stand-up comedy, rescue dog demonstrations, a cooking competition, and interactive programs for all ages. Best of all, it’s completely free!
Finally, animal lovers won’t want to miss the Night at the Zoo event on August 30th at the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden. From 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, visitors can explore the animal houses and exhibits under a different light, with the theme “The Zoo in a Different Light.” The program includes light shows, educational and craft activities, a courage test, face painting, a selfie point, fortune-telling, astronomical and firefighter demonstrations, and more. Visitors can also enjoy sea lion and elephant training sessions, as well as feeding demonstrations for sharks, Persian leopards, and lions. Live music and fire juggling performances will add to the festive atmosphere.
With so many diverse and exciting events happening during the last weekend of summer in Budapest, there’s no shortage of fun and entertainment for everyone. Whether you’re looking for cultural experiences, family-friendly activities, or a chance to connect with the community, this weekend has it all.
