BudapestGO: Record-Breaking Success in 2025

The BudapestGO app, developed by the Budapest Transport Center (BKK), has started 2025 on a high note with impressive milestones. The app now boasts over three million registered users and has been downloaded more than seven million times. In December 2024 alone, a record-breaking 400,000 users opted for digital ticket or pass purchases, underscoring the growing popularity of this innovative platform.

A Seamless Travel Experience

BudapestGO simplifies public transport by integrating ticket purchases and travel planning into one user-friendly platform. Beyond BKK services, the app also supports route planning for MÁV trains, HÉV suburban railways, and buses, making it a comprehensive tool for navigating the city and its surroundings. This functionality ensures predictable and convenient journeys for commuters.

New Features Driving Growth

The app’s success is partly due to its continuous development based on user feedback. A notable recent addition is the “felszállok” (I’m Boarding) button, introduced in December 2024. This feature streamlines boarding for pass holders on front-door-only buses and trolleys by eliminating the need for QR code scanning. Since its launch, over 50,000 users have tried the feature, with more than 10,000 using it daily.

The “felszállok” button is compatible with various passes, including Budapest passes, Pest County passes, national passes, and day tickets. While it simplifies boarding for pass holders, single-use tickets like line tickets still require QR code validation.

Transforming Urban Mobility

Since its launch nearly three years ago, BudapestGO has become an integral part of daily life for public transport users in Budapest. The app is used by approximately 1.5 million people monthly and has facilitated over 26 million digital ticket and pass purchases as well as 122 million route plans.
