Free Jewish Music Concert Series in Budapest’s Jewish Quarter

Every Thursday evening from late May through June, the streets of Budapest’s Jewish Quarter come alive with the sounds of klezmer, Yiddish song, and joyful Jewish music — and best of all, it’s completely free. Now in its fifth year, the Örömzene street concert series is one of the most atmospheric and authentic musical experiences you can stumble upon in the city, organised by the beloved Spinoza Theatre and Café as a gift to the neighbourhood and everyone passing through.
The concerts take place on Dob Street, right opposite the Spinoza Theatre, at the Carl Lutz Memorial — a location that carries deep historical significance in the heart of Erzsébetváros, Budapest’s 7th district.

The Performers
Each Thursday features a different act, ranging from intimate duos to full klezmer bands. This year’s lineup brings together some of Hungary’s finest Jewish music performers — plus, for the first time in the series’ history, an international guest ensemble joins the stage.
- 28 May — Gergő Nógrádi and Nelli Teszter open the series with an energetic and warm performance that brings Jewish musical traditions to life with an immediacy that fills the whole neighbourhood
- 4 June — The Three Yiddishe Mamas: Judit Klein, Fruzsina Fenyő, and Eszter Sára Váradi perform a moving yet playful evening of Yiddish songs about motherhood, memory, and the many shades of love — delivered with humour, honesty, and genuine emotion
- 11 June — Sabbathsong Klezmer Band, one of the Spinoza Theatre’s most beloved regular acts, led by Tamás Masa, creates an uplifting and joyful atmosphere that pulls the audience right into the music
- 18 June — Balázs Fellegi and Zoltán Neumark bring a powerful, distinctive sound to Dob Street; Fellegi is a returning favourite of the series whose commanding voice leaves a lasting impression on everyone who hears him
- 25 June — Samaria Klezmer Band from Slovakia closes the series with their fresh take on traditional klezmer, weaving world music and folk elements into an authentic yet modern sound rooted in Eastern European Jewish tradition
Why It’s Worth Your Time
Budapest’s Jewish Quarter is one of the city’s most compelling neighbourhoods to explore — home to the Great Synagogue on Dohány Street, the ruin bars, independent bookshops, and a vibrant café culture. The Örömzene concerts give you a reason to slow down and experience the area at its most alive. There’s no ticket to book, no dress code, and no barrier between you and the music — just a warm summer evening, a lively street, and some genuinely outstanding performers.
If you’re visiting Budapest between late May and the end of June, plan your Thursday evening around one of these concerts. Arrive a little early to grab a seat at the Spinoza Theatre’s café terrace, order something to drink, and let the music take over.
