The Unicum required for production was set aside in 2013, making this the company’s longest product development to date, kept secret for ten years.

Craftsmanship and Exclusivity

Unicum Trezor XO is the newest member of the Unicum herbal liqueur family, aged for ten years in oak barrels and then months in French brandy barrels. The term “XO,” which stands for “Extra Old,” is commonly used in cognac production and refers to the decade-long process that gives the drink its unique character. The aroma features vanilla, tropical spices, and oaky, woody notes, while the taste is dominated by the complex, spicy flavor of more than 40 herbs, along with mature, oaky, and chocolatey notes.

Due to the limited aging capacity of the cellar, the cherished stock of Unicum Trezor XO is barreled once a year in extremely limited quantities. Each year, a maximum of 2-3 thousand bottles worth of Unicum can be dedicated to the production of this liqueur. From the 2013 vintage, only 3,200 pieces were bottled, with 2,000 bottles to be released in 2024.

The exclusivity of the drink is further emphasized by the numbered bottles for each vintage. Every vintage has its own character, as no two harvests are the same, and the weather determines and influences the flavor profile of the herbs collected in a given year. The liqueur comes in a sleek, transparent, square bottle, departing from the usual rounded shape associated with the company.

In the Trezor branch, 200 bottles from the first batch are kept, with the plaques on these bottles personally written by Sándor Zwack.
