Summer’s Last Hurrah: Budapest’s Outdoor Pools Prepare to Close Their Gates

As the warm summer days slowly give way to the crisp air of autumn, Budapest’s outdoor pools are gearing up for their final weeks of operation. While some pools, like Pünkösdfürdő and Római beach, will be closing their gates on September 1st, others are extending their season into the first weeks of September, giving swimmers a chance to enjoy a few more refreshing dips before the leaves start to turn.

If you’re looking to make the most of the remaining summer days, here’s a rundown of when Budapest’s outdoor pools will be saying their final goodbyes:

Gellért: The outdoor pool (formerly the wave pool) will remain open until September 28th, 2024. The sunbathing terrace will continue to operate, weather permitting, likely until mid-October.

Paskál: The small Finnish sauna will be closed for renovations starting August 26th, 2024. The outdoor children’s pool will remain open until September 15th, 2024.

Palatinus Spa: The outdoor beach pool, thermal pools, and slides will be open until September 1st, 2024. The wave pool will operate until September 5th, the outdoor adventure pool and children’s pool until September 15th, and the Margaréta pool until September 28th.

Csillaghegyi Bath: The outdoor children’s pool will be open until September 1st, the beach pool until September 5th, and the outdoor swimming pool until September 15th, 2024.

Pesterzsébet Bath: Due to autumn cleaning and maintenance work, the following pools will NOT be in operation during the specified periods:

• Wave pool: from September 20th, 2024 (closing date may vary depending on weather conditions); between September 3rd and 20th, the wave generator will only operate on weekdays if there are more than 20 people.
• Outdoor children’s pool: from September 8th, 2024 (closing date may vary depending on weather conditions).
• Swimming pool: September 16th-18th, 2024.
• Adventure pool: September 23rd-25th, 2024 (the bath will be operating with a basic zone during this period).
• Winter-summer sitting pool: September 30th – October 1st, 2024.

So, gather your friends, grab your sunscreen, and head to your favorite outdoor pool for one last splash before the summer officially comes to a close. And who knows?
