Valyo Community Viaduct Reopens in Budapest

The Valyo Community Viaduct, located on the Jane Haining embankment, is set to reopen on June 22nd, transforming into an exhibition and community space thanks to the efforts of the Balka creative studio, árté, and Valyo. This unique venue promises to be a must-visit destination for tourists exploring the vibrant city of Budapest.

The opening event will feature an array of exciting activities, including the opportunity to create your own Valyo, embankment, or custom-designed badges and t-shirts. Visitors can also enjoy all-night ping-pong, refreshing spritzers and syrups served in reusable cups from various vintages, and delicious snacks. The music will be provided by the up-and-coming DJ team, Chat Boutique, who were discovered on the embankment last year.

The Viaduct Terrace, boasting the city’s best panoramic views and a plethora of programs, reopened on May 18th after a successful first season in 2023. This year, the embankment has been cleaned of distracting cables and tape barriers, and plants have been experimentally planted and placed in planters. Visitors can relax on picnic benches, enjoy a community grill, take in the unique panoramic benches, cool off in the cooling island, or relax under parasols. Children will delight in the sandbox area. Even during weekday car traffic, the resulting direct Danube-side area can be used as a promenade.

The viaduct, located under the number 2 tram line, houses a restaurant, exhibitions, and community and professional programs for visitors to the embankment. The Valyo team explains that locked doors along several kilometers under the tram line conceal an extraordinary venue between the Chain Bridge and the Elizabeth Bridge. These vast rooms, closed off for decades, began to be reclaimed in 2023.

The Valyo Community Viaduct and its installations will be open every weekend from June 22nd to October 23rd, between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Admission is free, and workshops operate on a donation basis.
