Ice Skating at Jégkert Budapest: Autumn Sessions and a Cosy Winter Garden

Buda Ice Rink at Széna Square: Budapest's Hidden Covered Skating Venue Opens for the 2025 Season

Looking for a fun way to spend an autumn afternoon or evening in Budapest? Jégkert has reopened its covered Buda Ice Rink and winter garden for the 2026–2027 season, bringing together ice skating, seasonal food and a craft beer bar on the Buda side of the city.

Whether you fancy a few laps on the ice, a relaxed lunch or dinner after an evening skate, you can combine everything in one outing. With a covered rink and a heated garden, it’s an inviting option for a chilly day in Budapest.

A Covered Ice Rink on the Buda Side

Jégkert’s covered rink offers a chance to add some active fun to your Budapest itinerary. Public skating takes place every day, with sessions scheduled around other activities on the ice. Rental skates are available on site, so there’s no need to bring your own.

The restaurant and winter garden make it easy to turn a skating session into a longer outing. Head onto the ice first, then warm up over lunch or dinner, or meet friends for a meal before an evening skate.

Autumn Break Skating Times: October 24–November 1

There are plenty of opportunities to get on the ice during the autumn school break, including late-evening sessions on most days.

On Saturday, October 24, public skating runs from 10am to 1pm and again from 3pm to 11pm. Sunday, October 25, has sessions from 10am to 7pm and 8pm to 10pm.

From Monday, October 26, to Wednesday, October 28, the daytime session runs from 9am to 4pm. Evening skating is available from 8pm to 11pm on Monday and Tuesday, and from 7pm to 11pm on Wednesday. Thursday, October 29, has sessions from 9am to 4pm and 8pm to 11pm.

Friday, October 30, offers the longest uninterrupted stretch, with public skating from 9am to 11pm. On Saturday, October 31, the rink opens from 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 11pm, while Sunday, November 1, has sessions from 10am to 7pm and 8pm to 10pm.

Check the live timetable before setting off, as public skating hours can change. Keep in mind that the gaps between sessions are not public skating periods.

Seasonal Dishes in the Winter Garden

There’s more to the visit than skating. The chef’s seasonal selection includes pumpkin cream soup with toasted pumpkin seeds, sage chicken breast with celeriac purée and sautéed mushrooms, and duck breast with teriyaki sauce and sesame salad.

Seafood lovers can try salmon fillet served with roasted tomato and shrimp tagliatelle, while carrot cake with orange mascarpone cream provides a sweet finish.

Table service is available in the covered, heated winter garden, and you can also reserve a table in the indoor restaurant. With the craft beer bar nearby, there’s no need to rush off once you’ve finished on the ice.

Planning Your Visit to Jégkert

You’ll find Jégkert near Széna Square, with its entrance on Varsányi Irén Street rather than directly on Bakfark Bálint Street.

For a meal before or after skating, reserve a table through the venue’s booking system. Check the public skating schedule separately from the restaurant’s opening hours, especially if you’re planning a late-evening visit.
