Generali Night Run Budapest 2026 – Run the City After Dark

If you’re visiting Budapest in late August 2026 and you’re a runner — or even just someone who loves a unique outdoor experience — the Generali Night Run Budapest is one event you won’t want to miss. Taking place on Saturday, 29 August 2026, this spectacular night race takes participants through the illuminated heart of the Hungarian capital, past some of its most iconic landmarks, all starting from the beautiful Műegyetem rakpart on the Danube. With up to 5,000 participants and multiple distances to choose from, it’s a fantastic way to experience Budapest like no ordinary tourist ever does.
What Is the Generali Night Run Budapest?
The Generali Night Run Budapest is part of the Maratonman racing series, one of Hungary’s most established and well-organised event brands. The race transforms Budapest’s most scenic riverside and historic routes into a glittering night course, complete with music, visual effects, and BioTechUSA refreshment stations at multiple points along the way. Whether you’re a seasoned half-marathon runner or a complete beginner doing your first 6 km, there’s a distance here for you.
The race headquarters, start, and finish areas are all set up on Műegyetem rakpart, the grand boulevard running along the Danube on the Pest side, right in the centre of the city. It’s a stunning setting that makes even the warm-up feel like an event.
The Route – Budapest at Its Most Beautiful
One of the greatest things about this race is the route itself. Running through Budapest at night, with the city’s landmarks lit up around you, is a genuinely extraordinary experience. The course takes you across the famous Chain Bridge, through the Castle Tunnel, up past the Buda Castle, and along a stretch where you can admire the breathtaking, floodlit Hungarian Parliament building reflected in the Danube. You’d pay good money for a boat tour of these sights — here you run past them at your own pace, medal in sight.
Race Distances and Start Times
There’s something for every level of runner, from children to competitive adults:
- 6 km – individual, starting from the lower embankment at 20:30
- Manna ABC 11 km – individual, starting at 21:50
- 11 km Headlamp Run – individual, starting at 22:10 (headlamp included in your race pack)
- Half Marathon (21.1 km) – run as part of the Generali Morning Run on Saturday morning, also available as a relay
- Duna-átúszás – a Danube swimming crossing for the adventurous
- Kölyök Körök – children’s races for ages 6–14, starting from 19:10
The children’s races are a wonderful option for families travelling with kids. The Kölyök Körök program offers distances of 1 km (family run), 2 km (ages 6–11), and 3 km (ages 12–14), with the award ceremony planned for around 20:10.
What’s in Your Race Pack?
You can choose between two entry packages:
The Premium Package includes your race bib, chip timing, a Mizuno technical running t-shirt, finisher medal (for those finishing within the time limit), BioTechUSA refreshments along the route, non-alcoholic Dreher 24 beer at the finish line, and full medical support throughout the race.
The Eco Package includes everything above except the t-shirt — a great option if your wardrobe is already full of race shirts, and a slightly more sustainable choice.
Participants in the 11 km Headlamp Run also receive a headlamp as part of their race pack — wearing it is compulsory for that particular distance, giving the race a wonderfully atmospheric, unified visual effect as thousands of lights wind through the night streets of Budapest.
Time Limits and Finisher Medals
Every runner who finishes within the official time limit receives a unique finisher medal. Time limits are 55 minutes for the 6 km and 1 hour 25 minutes for both 11 km distances. Runners who miss the cut-off receive a special RESPECT memorial medal at the finish line — because completing the course at any pace is worth celebrating.
Eco-Friendly Racing
The Generali Night Run Budapest takes a refreshingly responsible approach to sustainability. There are no single-use plastic or paper cups at the refreshment stations — instead, runners are asked to bring their own cup, bottle, or hydration pack. The refreshment stations are designed to be longer and better-staffed to prevent congestion, and you fill up your own container from the isotonic drink and water supplies. It’s a small thing that makes a big collective difference.
