Budapest Airport Expands UK Connections with New Jet2.com Routes

Budapest Airport, a part of the VINCI Airports network, has announced an exciting expansion of its flight offerings to the United Kingdom. Starting October 2025, Jet2.com will launch new routes connecting Budapest to two picturesque regions of England: Newcastle and East Midlands.

New Destinations Unveiled

The addition of these routes will broaden travel options for passengers departing from Budapest, opening up direct access to previously unserved areas of England:

  1. Newcastle: Located in North East England, Newcastle is renowned for its rich history, natural beauty, and passionate football culture. This new route will offer travelers a direct link to this vibrant city.
  2. East Midlands: Serving as a gateway to the heart of rural England, East Midlands Airport provides easy access to charming cities such as Nottingham, Derby, Northampton, and Leicester. This connection promises to showcase the quintessential English countryside experience.

Flight Details

Both new routes are scheduled to operate twice weekly, commencing from late autumn 2025 and running through April 2026. This winter schedule expansion is designed to meet the growing demand for travel between Hungary and the UK.

Strengthening UK-Hungary Connections

With the addition of these two destinations, Jet2.com will now offer flights to six UK cities from Budapest. The airline’s existing services to Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds Bradford will be complemented by these new routes, further solidifying the tourism links between the two countries.

Francois Berisot, CEO of Budapest Airport, emphasized the strategic importance of these new connections: “Budapest Airport’s development strategy focuses on diversification, i.e., building a route network that is as varied as possible, to meet different needs. Jet2.com’s scheduled flights are a perfect fit for this objective.”

Boosting Tourism and Accessibility

The expanded flight options are expected to cater to various travel preferences, from short city breaks to extended explorations of the English countryside. Notably, the East Midlands route will provide access to the legendary Sherwood Forest, famed for its association with Robin Hood.

Berisot further noted, “The wide range of services available between the two countries are first and foremost a testament to Hungary’s attractiveness as a tourist destination, responding to the growing demand for inbound tourism, which is expected to grow further in the future, thanks to the new flights.”

Looking Ahead

As Budapest Airport continues to diversify its route network, these new Jet2.com flights represent a significant step in enhancing connectivity between Hungary and the UK. The expansion not only offers more choices for travelers but also strengthens the cultural and economic ties between the two nations, promising exciting opportunities for tourism and business alike.
