Join Budapest’s Pink Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness on 3 October

Budapest's Picture-Perfect Weekend: Pink Lights, Running Shoes, and Bookish Bargains

The Chain Bridge will glow pink during the first weekend of October, and on Saturday evening, people will gather beside the Danube to walk together for breast cancer awareness. If you’re visiting Budapest, the Pink Walk is a chance to take part in a local event with a purpose: encouraging breast screening and diagnostic examinations while showing solidarity with people affected by breast cancer.

The walk takes place on Saturday, 3 October 2026. Participants will meet at 6:00 pm on the Danube Promenade, in front of the Budapest Marriott Hotel, near the Vigadó Square side of the building. The walk sets off at 6:30 pm, around sunset.

A Walk Along the Danube and Across the Chain Bridge

The route follows the Danube Promenade to the Chain Bridge and then returns. It is an open walk, so you can join or leave along the way rather than committing to the entire route. Brass Time, a street band, and the Vivace dance group will add music and movement to the evening.

There is no need to register for the walk. The organisers welcome an indication that you plan to attend through the event’s Facebook page, but you can simply come to the meeting point on the night. For visitors, the easiest landmark to look for is the Budapest Marriott Hotel on the Pest side of the river.

The Chain Bridge will also be illuminated in pink on three evenings, from Friday, 2 October through Sunday, 4 October. The lighting is part of the awareness campaign, giving the city a visible reminder of the message behind the walk even for those who cannot attend on Saturday.

An Afternoon Conference Before the Walk

Earlier on 3 October, a breast cancer conference will take place at the Budapest Marriott Hotel, 4 Apáczai Csere János Street, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Its talks will address breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as questions around screening and access to new medicines in Hungary. The organisers welcome people affected by the disease, their loved ones and anyone with a personal or professional interest in the subject.

The conference is free, but advance registration is required. Unlike the open evening walk, its programme will be in Hungarian, an important distinction if you are visiting from abroad. The organisers also note that the conference schedule may change.

Take Part in a Meaningful Budapest Evening

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Budapest walk offers a simple way to stand alongside others and draw attention to screening and care. You don’t need to sign up, speak Hungarian or stay for the full route to take part in the evening walk. Come to the Danube Promenade at 6:00 pm, join the walkers as they set off at 6:30 pm, and share in a moment of solidarity beneath the pink-lit Chain Bridge.
