Budapest Airport Initiates Major Renovation: Changes to Terminal Access and Traffic Flow

Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest is embarking on its next phase of development, focusing on refurbishing the bridge leading to Terminal 2 and the curbside area in front of the building. This significant upgrade will temporarily alter access routes and traffic patterns, affecting both departing and arriving passengers.

Key Changes Effective February 20, 2025

Vehicle Access Restrictions

  • The departure (upper) level will be closed to all vehicular traffic.
  • The arrivals (lower) level will have reduced space for pickup and drop-off activities.

Parking Recommendations

Budapest Airport strongly advises passengers arriving by car to utilize:

  • Terminal Parking (marked with green signs)
  • City Break Parking (marked with purple signs)

Public Transportation Adjustments

  • Bus 100E: The terminus will be relocated to a new spot on the outer curbside of the arrivals level. This change is expected to last until June 2025.
  • Bus 200E: Will continue to operate from its usual stop throughout the renovation period.
  • Non-BKK buses: These will be redirected to the Bus Terminal, as entry to the departure level will be prohibited.

Safety and Navigation

Due to these significant changes in traffic flow, the airport authorities urge all drivers to exercise increased caution when navigating the airport grounds. It is crucial to pay close attention to the updated road signs to ensure smooth traffic movement and passenger safety.

Duration and Impact

While the specific end date for the renovations has not been provided, the changes to the bus 100E route are slated to last until June 2025, suggesting that the project may extend at least until that time. The airport operator has requested understanding and patience from passengers during this period of improvement.

Looking Ahead

These renovations are part of Budapest Airport’s ongoing commitment to enhancing passenger experience and modernizing its facilities. While temporary inconveniences are inevitable, the long-term benefits of improved infrastructure and smoother traffic flow will ultimately benefit all airport users.

Passengers are advised to plan their airport journeys accordingly, allowing extra time for navigation and potential delays due to the altered traffic patterns. Staying informed about these changes and following the guidance provided by airport staff will help ensure a smoother travel experience during this renovation period.
