How to Get to the Hungaroring in Budapest: A Guide for Foreign Tourists

Are you a foreign tourist visiting Hungary and planning to attend the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring? Look no further! This guide will provide all the information you need to make your way to the legendary race track.

The Hungaroring, located in Mogyoród, has been hosting Formula 1 races since 1986. It was the first race track behind the Iron Curtain and is now the second-longest continuously running track on the Formula 1 calendar. The 4,381-meter track is known for its tight corners and limited overtaking opportunities, making for exciting races and strategic maneuvers.

Getting to the Hungaroring from Budapest is easy and convenient, especially if you have a Budapest Card. The Budapest Card, available in 72h, 72h PLUS, 96h, and 120h versions, allows you to use public transportation for free between the city and the race track during the Hungarian Grand Prix. Additionally, the card offers free public transportation within the city limits, making it easy to get to the Hungaroring from your accommodation.

To reach the Hungaroring using public transportation, first make your way to Örs vezér tere in Budapest. From there, take the H8 HÉV suburban train to Kerepes HÉV station. VOLÁNBUSZ provides a free transfer from Kerepes HÉV station to Gate 3 of the Hungaroring.

For your return journey, take the free transfer buses back to Kerepes HÉV station. From there, you have two options:

  • Take the H8 HÉV suburban train back to Örs vezér tere.
  • Choose MÁV-START trains (S80, Mátra, or Agria InterRegio trains) to reach Keleti Railway Station in the city center.

You can purchase single-day tickets for public transportation at MÁV and BKK ticket offices or through their mobile applications. Alternatively, you can use your Budapest Card for free travel.

In addition to free public transportation, the Budapest Card offers a range of benefits, including:

  • Free entry to 30+ attractions
  • A free Budapest map and guide
  • Free city walking tours in Pest and Buda
  • Free entry to Lukács Thermal Bath
  • A free Danube sightseeing cruise
  • 50+ additional discounted programs and services

Plan your long weekend in July by checking the list of Budapest Card acceptance points and make the most of your visit to the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring!
