What Is Genesis?
Created by PROJEKTIL, Genesis blends light, animation and music into an immersive artwork inspired by the story of creation. Instead of watching a performance on a conventional stage, you sit inside the church as colourful images move across its walls and ceiling. The music accompanies the shifting visuals, giving you half an hour to pause and take it all in.
The show has attracted more than two million visitors worldwide, according to its organisers. In Budapest, its setting will be part of the appeal: the projections will play across a real church interior, allowing contemporary visual art and historic architecture to share the spotlight.
A Historic Setting on Bakáts Square
The Church of St. Francis of Assisi stands in the heart of Bakáts Square in Ferencváros, Budapest’s District IX. Designed by the Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl and built between 1867 and 1879, it is a neo-Romanesque landmark whose high ceiling and architectural details provide a striking setting for the show.
Best deals of Budapest
For visitors, Genesis offers a way to experience a Budapest landmark beyond a daytime sightseeing stop. You can make it the centrepiece of an evening out, whether you are travelling as a couple, meeting friends or looking for an indoor cultural activity.
Before You Book
Tickets are available through Fever from noon today. The show begins in November 2026, so check the available performance dates and times when booking. A QR code on your phone is all you need for entry; there is no need to print your ticket.
Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early so you can choose a seat before the performance starts. Late entry is permitted, but you will miss the opening minutes. Photography and video are allowed without flash, while tripods and professional photography equipment are not permitted.
The show is highly visual and may also appeal to visitors with hearing impairments. It is not recommended for people with photosensitivity because of its lighting effects. There are no toilets or dedicated parking spaces at the venue. The organiser’s information also gives conflicting details about wheelchair access, so contact them before booking if you need step-free entry or other accessibility support.
