GENESIS Budapest: An Immersive Light Show Transforms a Historic Church This November

Genesis Budapest

Imagine settling into a beanbag chair inside a historic Budapest church as its walls and ceiling dissolve into a moving world of light, colour and music. Opening on November 6, 2026, GENESIS Budapest invites you to experience the story of creation through a spectacular immersive projection show at the Church of St Francis of Assisi on Bakáts Square.

Following more than two million ticket sales internationally, the production is coming to Budapest with a roughly 30-minute audiovisual journey. If you’re looking for something a little different to add to your sightseeing plans, this is a chance to experience one of the city’s historic interiors in an entirely new way.

Watch a Historic Church Become Part of the Story

The setting is central to the experience. Designed by Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl, the Church of St Francis of Assisi provides much more than a backdrop: its architecture becomes part of the unfolding spectacle.

Using projection mapping, a technology that fits digital imagery precisely to three-dimensional surfaces, GENESIS transforms the church’s walls, ceiling and architectural details into an expansive moving canvas. The interior was carefully surveyed and digitally mapped so that the projections could follow the building’s individual features.

Instead of watching a screen in front of you, you’ll find yourself surrounded by images that shift with the music. Look up, let your eyes wander and watch the familiar shapes of a church interior take on an unexpected life.

Travel Through the Seven Days of Creation

The show follows the seven-day arc of the creation story, beginning with light and moving through water, air, land and plant life. Celestial bodies, creatures of the sea and sky, land animals and humanity emerge as the journey unfolds, before the spectacle reaches its conclusion.

Light, colour and carefully composed classical music carry the experience, turning a familiar narrative into something you can explore through sight and sound. You don’t need a religious background to appreciate it: the production also welcomes visitors who simply want to enjoy an imaginative meeting of art, architecture and technology.

Comfortable beanbag seating encourages you to settle in rather than move through an exhibition. For half an hour, the invitation is to slow down, look around and let the changing scenes draw you in.

An International Production With a Budapest Setting

GENESIS is the work of PROJEKTIL, a Zurich-based artist collective bringing together visual artists, musicians, programmers, sound engineers and designers. Presented in Budapest in collaboration with the entertainment discovery platform Fever, the production combines digital storytelling with the distinctive character of its venue.

Selected performances will also feature live musicians, adding another dimension to the soundtrack within the church’s acoustics. If that sounds like your kind of evening, check which sessions include live accompaniment when choosing your tickets, as it won’t be part of every performance.

Plan Your Visit to GENESIS Budapest

GENESIS Budapest opens on November 6, 2026, at the Church of St Francis of Assisi on Bakáts Square. Each performance lasts approximately 30 minutes, making it easy to fit into a day of exploring Budapest or an evening out.

The announced ticket price is HUF 2,490, and tickets are already available through the official website and the Fever platform, including the Fever app. Check the available dates, session times and ticket conditions before booking, particularly if you want to attend a performance with live musicians.

For couples, friends and visitors with an interest in immersive art, the combination of a historic setting and contemporary visual technology offers a compelling alternative to a conventional evening programme.

Make Time for Something Extraordinary

Budapest’s architecture is always worth looking up at—but GENESIS gives you a whole new reason to do so. With light flowing across the church interior and music shaping each scene, this is an opportunity to pause your sightseeing and let the spectacle surround you.

Book a session, settle into your seat and discover how a historic Budapest church can become the setting for an entirely different kind of journey.
