Budapest’s Party District Gets Its Own Police Station
In a significant move to enhance safety and security in one of Europe’s most popular nightlife areas, Budapest has opened a dedicated police station in its famous “Party District.” This new facility, located in the heart of the bustling 7th district, aims to serve both local residents and the numerous tourists who flock to the area.
A Unique Urban Challenge
The Party District, as highlighted by Bence Rétvári, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, is a one-square-kilometer area in central Budapest that houses an impressive 845 hospitality and entertainment venues. Notably, 200 of these establishments operate between midnight and 6 AM, creating a vibrant but challenging environment for law enforcement.
Enhanced Police Presence and Accessibility
The new police station addresses several key issues:
- Immediate Access: Residents and visitors no longer need to travel to distant police stations to file reports.
- Increased Efficiency: Police patrols can now cover more ground, investigate more cases, and respond to complaints more quickly.
- Multilingual Support: Even when the office is closed, a intercom-like device allows people to contact the police in various languages, catering to the diverse tourist population.
Focus on Safety and Crime Prevention
The police station will prioritize:
- Combating robberies, muggings, and other violent crimes
- Intensifying efforts against drug-related offenses
- Holding regular office hours for non-urgent matters
- Providing an emergency contact point for immediate assistance
A Boost for Tourism and Local Living
Alexandra Szentkirályi, Budapest leader of Fidesz and leader of the metropolitan assembly faction, emphasized the importance of this development for both tourism and local quality of life. “We are very proud that more and more people choose to visit Budapest year after year, with the Party District becoming a special attraction in itself. However, it is crucial what reputation they take back to the world, and how safe the local residents feel,” she explained.
Looking Ahead
Budapest Police Chief Tamás Terdik expressed confidence that the new station will improve response times and overall safety in the area. With the Party District’s popularity showing no signs of waning, this proactive approach to law enforcement demonstrates Budapest’s commitment to maintaining its reputation as one of Europe’s safest capital cities while preserving its vibrant nightlife scene.
