Budapest’s Palotanegyed Named One of the Coolest Neighborhoods in the World
Hey there, have you heard the news? Budapest’s Józsefváros district has just been named one of the coolest places in the city by Time Out Travel magazine! Can you believe it? Last year, it was Újbuda that made it onto the list of the world’s trendiest neighborhoods, and now it’s the Palace Quarter in the 8th district that’s getting all the attention.
And you know what? We couldn’t agree more with the decision. The Palace Quarter has always been one of our favorite parts of Budapest, and for good reason. Not only is it home to some of the city’s most interesting architectural heritage, but it’s also got a ton of exciting stories and forward-thinking initiatives going on. Plus, with all the cool cafes, bars, and restaurants popping up, it’s no wonder the area has such a buzzing vibe.
One of the things that makes the Palace Quarter so special is that it’s not as crowded as some of the other trendy spots in the city, like the nearby party district or the increasingly popular Újbuda. That means you can still enjoy a really atmospheric neighborhood without feeling like you’re being overrun by tourists.
So, what are some of the highlights of the Palace Quarter, according to Time Out? Well, they definitely give a shout-out to the Hungarian National Museum and its beautiful garden, which is home to the Geraldine pastry shop. They also mention the neighboring Italian Cultural Institute, Bródy Sándor Street, and Mikszáth Kálmán Square as some of the area’s main attractions.
But that’s not all – the magazine also highlights some of our favorite spots in the neighborhood, like the new breakfast joint The Garden Cafe, the Kalóz record store, the Typo Showroom, the Molnár Ani Gallery, and the Főfotó photography center. And of course, they couldn’t forget about the Jaromír a Templomhoz bar, the Fecske Presszó cafe, the two Lumen restaurants, and the Charbon Art Cafe (formerly known as Art Cafe Muse).
Oh, and get this – apparently, the long-awaited Time Out Market Budapest is set to open in the recently renovated Corvin Palace in May 2025. How exciting is that?
All in all, it’s clear that the Palace Quarter is officially one of the coolest places not just in Budapest, but in the whole world. And honestly, we couldn’t be more thrilled about it. So next time you’re in the city, make sure to take a stroll through this vibrant neighborhood and see for yourself what all the fuss is about. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!
