Budapest Gets Ready for Ice Skating Season
Budapest may still be enjoying a balmy Indian summer, but preparations for winter are already underway. Across the city, pedal boats are being packed away, ice rinks are taking shape, and venues are planning a new season of skating, warming drinks and family entertainment.
Városligeti Műjégpálya is aiming for a November opening, Budapest Park’s KoriPark will welcome visitors from November 28 to January 31, and Miamor is preparing an expanded rink with new winter attractions.
Winter Preparations at Városliget
The transition from boating lake to ice rink has begun at Városligeti Műjégpálya, Budapest’s City Park Ice Rink. Water is being drained from the rink area, while the pedal boats are being put away for the season.
Over the coming weeks, the team will clean the lakebed, inspect the cooling system and prepare the ice, ready to welcome skaters back against the picturesque backdrop of Vajdahunyad Castle.
As in previous years, skating is expected to begin in November. The exact opening date will be announced closer to the time, once the team has a clearer picture of the weather conditions.
Miamor Plans a Bigger Winter
Miamor is preparing for an expanded winter season, with a larger ice rink, sparkling lights, and covered, heated spaces where visitors can relax between activities.
Families can look forward to children’s concerts, puppet theatre performances and a new barrel train. A new club room will provide space for family celebrations, gatherings with friends and corporate events, while skating birthday parties and Alpine-hut-style festivities are also part of the plans. The venue’s quiz nights will continue throughout the colder months.
Best deals of Budapest
The full summer food court is set to return in spring, but visitors will still find plenty to enjoy this autumn and winter. The seasonal menu will include mulled wine, grilled sausages, pizza, steamed sweet dumplings and other warming treats.
Miamor will announce its ice rink opening date, ticket prices and discounts later.
KoriPark Returns on November 28
Budapest Park will once again swap its summer atmosphere for a winter setting as KoriPark opens on November 28. The skating season will run through January 31, with cosy huts serving hot drinks and winter treats alongside the rink.
All visitors need a valid ticket to enter, including accompanying guests who do not intend to skate. Each ticket allows skating from opening until closing on the day of the visit, but permits only one entry.
The rink will undergo regular ice-resurfacing breaks to keep the surface in good condition. Visitors must leave the ice during these periods, offering a chance to rest and enjoy something warm before returning for another round.
A New Season of Chilly Fun
For now, Budapest’s balmy Indian summer leaves room for a few more sun-soaked afternoons. But behind the scenes, the city’s winter venues are already busy preparing for the change of season.
With skating beneath Vajdahunyad Castle, an expanded winter programme at Miamor and the return of KoriPark, there will be plenty to look forward to when temperatures drop. Winter is just around the corner — and Budapest will be ready for a new season of chilly fun!
