When Budapest’s Balconies Come Alive: The Újlipótváros Balcony Concerts 2026

Balcony Concerts

There’s something undeniably magical about a city street that suddenly transforms into a concert hall. No tickets, no barriers, no stage — just open windows, talented musicians, and the warm summer air of one of Budapest’s most beloved neighborhoods. On June 13, 2026, the Újlipótváros Balcony Concerts return to the streets of District XIII, and if you’re visiting Budapest this summer, this is one experience you genuinely don’t want to miss.

What Are the Újlipótváros Balcony Concerts?

The concept is beautifully simple. Instead of gathering in a traditional venue, musicians perform from the balconies and windows of residential buildings spread across the Újlipótváros neighborhood — known affectionately among locals as “Újlipóc.” Audiences simply wander the streets, letting the music guide them from one building to the next. There’s no fixed route, no printed program to follow, and no agenda beyond enjoying great live music in an extraordinary urban setting.

This year, more than 30 performances will take place across over 25 balconies, featuring an impressively diverse mix of musical genres — from classical flute and piano duets to jazz guitar, pop vocal ensembles, cello duos, swing, bossa nova, and even Yiddish theatre songs. Whether you stumble upon an intimate acoustic set drifting down from a first-floor window or round a corner to find a trumpet quartet filling the street with sound, every turn holds a new surprise.

A Full Afternoon and Evening of Free Music

The program runs from 4:00 PM to nearly 8:00 PM, giving you a generous stretch of time to explore at your own pace. Things get underway right at 4:00 PM when the Énekrevalók – Pálferis Chamber Choir opens the event at the Szent István Park / Hollán Ernő Street corner tram stop — a fitting, communal start in one of the neighborhood’s most beloved green spaces.

At 4:15 PM, flautist Horváth Ágnes and pianist Popovics Alexandra perform their elegant classical duet from Pannónia Street 46/a, while the folk duo Dálnoky Annamária and Laufer Szilvia take the lower balcony at Wein János Park, and the spirited Hippikiller solo act sets up at the corner of Csanády Street and Hegedűs Gyula Street. By 4:30 PM, the informal guitar duo The Daniels — Gantner Dániel and Berecz Dániel — perform from Szent István Park 14, while the ensemble ¡Nosnach brings energy to Hollán Ernő Street 27.

The late afternoon unfolds beautifully: at 4:45 PM, the warm voice of Kisgyörgy Ilka with acoustic guitar fills Hegedűs Gyula Street 32, classical tenor Szűcs István performs at Tátra Street 30/b, and the vocal ensemble Tripla! — featuring Nagy Kata, Kégl Lóránt and Szintai-Molnár Péter — brings pop arrangements back to the Szent István Park corner for a second set. At 5:00 PM, the Mayberian Sanskülotts duo takes the stage at Szent István Park 14, before the evening’s most eclectic hour begins.

The Heart of the Evening

From 5:15 PM onward, the program reaches its most exciting stretch. A trumpet quartet featuring artist-teachers Horváth Domokos, Szabó Csaba, and their students performs at Hollán Ernő Street 33, while RoofPop brings their signature acoustic pop, jazz, and bossa nova blend to the upper balcony of Wein János Park. Meanwhile, the beloved Kárász Eszter performs at Szent István Park 26 — a spot well worth seeking out.

At 5:30 PM, the unmissable Három jiddise mame take to Pozsonyi Road 35 with their irresistible cocktail of Yiddish songs, swing, and evergreen theatre numbers. A little later, Kisgyörgy Ilka makes a return appearance at Katona József Street 27, and the eclectic inuiit.live performs at Szent István Park 14.

The 6:00 PM hour is particularly rich. The More von dir cello duo performs at Pozsonyi Road 41, the Fool Connection Duo at Pannónia Street 68, and the acoustic Bebeka at Pannónia Street 15 — all simultaneously, meaning a short walk connects three very different musical worlds. The captivating Iván Szandra takes the balcony at Szent István Park 26, and at 6:15 PM Móser Ádám performs at Pannónia Street 42, followed by a second RoofPop set at Pannónia Street 15.

The Grand Finale

As dusk settles over the neighborhood, the final hours of the program bring some of the evening’s most memorable moments. At 6:30 PM, Kisgyörgy Ilka returns once more at Victor Hugo Street 24/b, jazz guitarist Négyessy Barnabás plays an intimate set at Hollán Ernő Street 47 (accessible from the terrace with registration — only partially visible from the street), and Flowra performs her guitar and vocal set at Balzac Street 20.

At 6:45 PM, the chamber trio of Tornyos Virág (flute), Serleg Annamária (violin), and Kertész Júlia (viola) performs at Visegrádi Street 80/a, the folk-flavored a Gecó és a Fa takes the upper balcony of Wein János Park, and Hēya brings the evening to a warm close at the Szent István Park corner. The final sets run through 7:45 PM, when Tripla! wraps up the entire event from the lower terrace of Wein János Park — a perfect, joyful end to the evening.

A Neighborhood Worth Discovering

Even beyond the concerts, Újlipótváros is one of Budapest’s most rewarding neighborhoods to explore on foot. The streets around Pozsonyi Road are lined with elegant early 20th-century apartment buildings adorned with ornate façade details that are easy to overlook on a busy day. The Balcony Concerts do something wonderful: they slow you down, make you look up, and draw your attention to the architectural beauty all around you. The neighborhood also has a thriving café culture, independent bookshops, and a relaxed residential charm that feels refreshingly different from Budapest’s more tourist-heavy areas.
