Generali Gyerek Sziget 2026: The Ultimate Family Weekend in Budapest

Generali Children's Island

If you’re visiting Budapest with kids this June, you’re in for a real treat. From June 19 to 21, 2026, Shipyard Island (Hajógyári-sziget) in Óbuda transforms into one of the most vibrant family festivals in Central Europe — and the best part? Entry is completely free.

The Generali Gyerek Sziget (Children’s Island) has become one of Budapest’s most beloved summer traditions, drawing thousands of families each year to kick off the school holidays in style. With over 70 programs spread across the island’s lush green spaces, there’s genuinely something for every age group, from toddlers discovering their first petting zoo to teenagers taking on ninja obstacle courses.

A Ninja Warrior Course for Young Adventurers

One of the absolute highlights of the event is the Generali Obstacle Course, where kids can channel their inner ninja across 15 challenging stations. Balance beams, crawling tunnels, climbing frames, and agility runs push little ones to their physical best — and the best part is that every child who completes the course can earn a certificate to take home as a memento. It’s the kind of challenge that gets kids cheering each other on and leaves them buzzing with pride.

The Big Family Adventure Game

This year’s Generali Family Adventure Game has a truly meaningful theme: kindness and giving. Across five interactive stations, families work together to explore why helping others matters and discover just how many different ways there are to make a positive difference in the world. Families who complete all five stations receive a small gift as a reward — but honestly, the shared experience of playing and learning together is the real prize. It’s heartwarming to watch parents and children tackle the challenges side by side, building memories that last well beyond the weekend.

Great Food and a Good Cause

Feeling peckish after all that adventure? Head to the The Human Safety Net Donation Buffet, where Generali employees serve up hot dogs, pancakes, and ice-cold lemonade — alongside a bag-of-surprises toy lucky dip for children. Every purchase goes directly toward funding summer camps for families facing difficult circumstances, giving them the chance to enjoy a meaningful holiday experience. It’s a beautiful example of how a family day out can quietly do a lot of good in the world.

Free Health Screenings for the Grown-Ups

While the kids are busy having the time of their lives, parents and grandparents can take advantage of something genuinely useful: free preventive health screenings aboard the Generali medical buses, available on Saturday and Sunday. Tests on offer include full body composition analysis, blood pressure measurement, arterial stiffness assessment, bone density measurement, and a gluten sensitivity rapid test for both adults and children. There’s also a PSA prostate screening available for men. It’s the kind of health check-up that many people put off indefinitely — so why not tick it off while you’re enjoying a day in the sun?

Live Music for the Whole Family

The Generali Main Stage serves up three days of fantastic live performances, carefully curated to delight children and parents in equal measure. Friday opens with the Superar Children’s Choir and Guitar Ensemble, followed by a theatrical performance from Majorka Színház and a much-loved concert by the iconic Halász Judit, whose songs have been a staple of Hungarian childhood for decades. On Saturday, the Lóca Ensemble brings their spectacular shape-shifting concert to the stage, followed by the Belvárosi Betyárok — a band whose cleverly written songs work on two levels, entertaining children while winking knowingly at the adults. The legendary Kaláka close out Saturday evening with their animal-themed concert. Sunday wraps everything up beautifully with Apacuka, one of Hungary’s most beloved children’s bands, and the Kiskalász zenekar in the afternoon.

A World of Workshops and Wonder

The Crafts Palace is a haven for creative kids, offering mask-making, flower crown weaving, butterfly art, bead tree crafting, and hand-painted fan-making throughout all three days. Meanwhile, the Gyerek Paradicsom (Children’s Paradise) zone is a nature-lover’s dream, with vegetable printing workshops, secret garden planting sessions, moss ball-making, flower postcard crafting, and even barefoot sensory walking trails.

For circus lovers, the Karamella Circus World is an unmissable stop — home to a magic school run by the mysterious Rolando, a juggling academy led by Master Pumba, the resident clowns Muxli and Laky (joined this year by special guests Bizsu and Carlo from Pécs), and the world’s most comfortable Clown House. The KABOLÓ Movement Arts Workshop rounds out the circus zone with balance and coordination challenges.

Animal lovers are very well catered for too. The ALDI Petting Zoo introduces children to farm animals including Kamilla the Shetland pony and Zserbó the friendly donkey, while the Retriever Rescue dog petting corner and the Óbuda Dog Club’s Sunday session offer plenty of puppy cuddles. On Friday and Saturday, the Shepherd’s Yard brings sheepdogs and flocks to life, exploring Budapest’s local protected natural areas through hands-on activities.

For the Littlest Visitors

Even babies and toddlers are brilliantly looked after. The Baby Playhouse is a soft, safe zone full of colourful balls, cushions, and sensory walls overseen by specialist animators. The Mamacuka Baby-Mama Club runs baby massage sessions, playful yoga, and social time for new mothers. The Kerekítő Manó tent runs nursery rhyme sessions and musical storytelling for the very youngest at 11:00 and 15:30 each day.

Sport, Science, and So Much More

Active kids can bounce to their hearts’ content in the giant inflatable castle, take the wheel at the Chery Mini Drive go-kart KRESZ course, tackle the Gymnathlon adventure trail, or test their skills in the Sports Park. The Budapesti Honvéd kayak-canoe club brings their expertise to the island, and the Ganz Radio Club introduces children to the fascinating world of amateur radio and Morse code. For families interested in child development, the Smart Kids specialists offer quick developmental assessments and consultations on Friday and Saturday.

The Néprajzi Múzeum (Hungarian Museum of Ethnography) has a dedicated family corner on site, and the collaborative storytelling project A Hajógyári-sziget Meséje invites every child who visits to contribute a character, a setting, or a plot twist to a growing community fairy tale — a uniquely lovely way to leave your mark on the island.

Plan Your Visit

The festival runs from 10:00 to 18:00 each day, with the main stage concerts at 11:00, 14:30, and 16:30. There’s no need to book — just turn up, explore at your own pace, and let the kids lead the way. With free entry, free health screenings, and enough activities to fill three full days, Generali Gyerek Sziget is one of the most extraordinary free family events you’ll find anywhere in Europe this summer.
