The Perfect Time to Experience the City’s Enchanting Lights During the Chairlifts’ Night

Budapest, the stunning capital of Hungary, is renowned for its breathtaking architecture and vibrant nightlife. One of the most unique and memorable experiences the city has to offer is the Chairlifts’ Night, an annual event that allows visitors to soar above the city in a chairlift and witness the mesmerizing display of illuminated buildings. If you’re planning to attend this event, timing is crucial to make the most of your experience.

The ideal time to arrive at the Zugliget Chairlift, the venue for the event, is just after sunset. On July 13th, the sun is expected to set at 8:38 PM, making it the perfect moment to embark on your nighttime adventure. As you ascend the 1,040-meter-long chairlift, you’ll be treated to a spectacular panoramic view of Budapest, with over 300 buildings showcasing their dazzling illuminations.

One of the highlights of the evening occurs at 11:00 PM when the city’s decorative lighting is turned off to conserve energy. If you time your descent just right, you’ll have the unique opportunity to witness the city’s lights gradually fading away, creating an enchanting and unforgettable sight.

To ensure you don’t miss out on this incredible experience, it’s recommended to purchase your tickets in advance. A limited number of special return tickets for the event are available for 5,000 HUF (approximately 13 EUR) and can be bought at the Underground Railway Museum at Deák Ferenc Square. Keep in mind that the museum is closed on Mondays and only accepts cash payments. Children under the age of 3 can ride for free.

For those who are passionate about chairlifts, the Chairlift Loyalty Card offers an attractive discount. The first 100 cardholders can enjoy a 50% reduction on their ticket price for the 9th Chairlifts’ Night. The card can be purchased for a one-time fee of 6,000 HUF (approximately 16 EUR) for adults and 3,000 HUF (approximately 8 EUR) for students.

In addition to the 291 bus, a special retro bus service (R158) will be available during the event, providing direct transportation between Széll Kálmán Square and Zugliget without any stops.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Budapest from a unique perspective during the Chairlifts’ Night. Plan your visit carefully, arrive just after sunset, and prepare to be enchanted by the city’s twinkling lights as you glide through the night sky.
