Tash Sultana Cancels Sziget Festival Performance, Pulls Out of All European Dates

Tash Sultana

If Tash Sultana was on your must-see list for Sziget Festival this year, it’s time to update your festival planner. The Australian singer-songwriter has officially canceled her upcoming appearance at Sziget, along with every other European concert and festival date on her summer schedule. The news, first reported by Musicdaily, comes as a disappointment to many fans who had specifically planned their festival trip around catching her set.

What Happened

Tash Sultana was originally scheduled to perform on Wednesday, August 12, on Sziget’s Main Stage, playing right before headliner Twenty One Pilots. It would have marked her return to Hungary after a memorable show at Budapest Park back in 2022, and her first-ever appearance at Sziget itself. Instead, the artist announced via Instagram that she’s stepping back from her entire European tour, including all festival slots, to focus on finishing new music.

In her own words, shared with fans directly:

“I’ve made the difficult decision to cancel my upcoming August dates in Europe. My team and I looked at every possible way to avoid this, but there isn’t a solution that works. I know how disappointing this is, especially for those of you who planned travel, time off, and made arrangements to be at these shows. I’m truly sorry.”

It’s a candid, personal message, and one that clearly weighed on the artist before she made the call.

Why She’s Stepping Back

The reasoning behind the cancellation comes down to one thing: the new album. Sultana explained that she needs more time in the studio to bring the record up to the standard she holds herself to, rather than rushing it out to meet tour commitments. She continued:

“I need more time to finish the album to the standard I hold myself to. Releasing anything less wouldn’t be fair to you or the music. You deserve my best work, and that’s what I intend to deliver. Thank you for understanding and for always supporting me. I can’t wait to share this music with you.”

It’s a decision that prioritizes long-term artistic quality over short-term touring obligations, and while it’s a letdown for festival-goers this summer, it does suggest fans can expect a fully realized new album down the line.

What This Means for Sziget Festival

Sziget organizers have already removed Tash Sultana from the official lineup following her announcement. As of now, no replacement act has been confirmed for her Main Stage slot on August 12, though festivals of Sziget’s scale typically move quickly to fill high-profile gaps, especially ones directly preceding a headliner like Twenty One Pilots.

For anyone holding tickets or planning their Sziget schedule around this performance, it’s worth keeping an eye on the festival’s official channels over the coming weeks. Lineup updates tend to happen fast as the event approaches, and there’s a reasonable chance an artist of similar caliber gets slotted in before the gates open.

Still Worth the Trip

One canceled set, even a highly anticipated one, doesn’t change what makes Sziget one of Europe’s biggest and most diverse summer festivals. With hundreds of acts spread across multiple stages on Óbuda Island in the Danube, plus Twenty One Pilots still confirmed to headline that same evening, there’s still plenty to look forward to for anyone making the trip to Budapest this August.

If you’re attending Sziget for the first time, this is a good reminder to build some flexibility into your festival plans. Lineups shift, artists cancel, and last-minute schedule changes are simply part of the festival experience, even at an event as well-organized as Sziget.
