Piano Day Budapest 2026: A Night of Modern Classical Piano at MOMkult

If you’re visiting Budapest on the weekend of March 28, you’re in for a truly special musical experience. Piano Day Budapest 2026 brings together some of Hungary’s most exciting modern classical and ambient piano artists for an intimate evening concert at MOMkult’s stunning Kupola Hall — and it’s one of those events you’ll genuinely regret missing.
What Is Piano Day?
Piano Day is a globally celebrated annual event that takes place on the 88th day of the year — a clever nod to the 88 keys of a standard piano. It was founded in 2015 by Nils Frahm, one of the most influential figures in modern classical music, who famously said: “It doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, and most importantly, the listeners.” Since then, Piano Day has grown into a worldwide movement, with piano-centered events held across the globe every year on March 29 — and 2026 marks the 11th edition of this beloved celebration.
Piano Day Budapest: A Hungarian Tradition
Budapest first hosted its own Piano Day event back in 2017, and it has been growing in prestige and atmosphere ever since. Over the years, iconic Budapest venues such as Müpa, the A38 Ship, and the Lóvasút Cultural Center have all served as hosts. Since 2024, MOMkult has become the proud home of Piano Day Budapest, and 2026 marks the third consecutive year the venue is hosting the event. This year’s concert takes place in MOMkult’s magnificent Kupola Hall, a space celebrated for its remarkable acoustics and intimate atmosphere — the kind of room that makes every note feel personal.
Meet the Artists
Four talented Hungarian artists are taking the stage this year, each bringing their own unique voice to the world of modern classical and ambient piano music.
Andor Sanderson
Andor Sanderson (born Csécsi Andor) is a Hungarian composer and pianist whose work draws inspiration from personal memories and the subtle movements of nature. His compositions sit at the crossroads of modern classical and ambient music, evoking the atmospheric sounds of artists like Brian Eno, Ólafur Arnalds, and Ludovico Einaudi. For Piano Day 2026, he returns to the Budapest stage with a special set featuring cellist Agárdi Eszter, promising an intimate and personal musical journey for the audience.

Vaghy
Vaghy (Vaghy Tamás) is widely regarded as one of the leading figures of Hungary’s modern classical and ambient music scene, and a true flag-bearer of Piano Day in the country. A classically trained pianist and composer, he performs his own experimental compositions, with improvisation playing an important and spontaneous role in his sets. If you’re curious about the frontier of Hungarian contemporary piano music, Vaghy is not to be missed.
Charmey
Charmey (Marc Charmet) is a Franco-Hungarian pianist who has become a fixture at Piano Day Budapest concerts in recent years. He performs as a solo project in an ambient-classical style, where minimalism and emotional depth meet in a beautifully balanced way. This year, the central theme of his set will be love — so expect something heartfelt and deeply evocative.
Peaq
Peaq (Pitlu Gergő) is making his Piano Day Budapest debut this year, and he’s bringing something fresh to the stage. A young and rising talent, his background in music production and sound engineering adds a unique sonic dimension to his work. His performances blend ambient and electronic music styles into an exciting and distinctly personal sound — a compelling addition to the lineup.
