Discover the Design Without Borders Exhibition at Kiscelli Museum

Experience one of Budapest’s most inspiring art events this autumn — the 21st Design Without Borders exhibition at the Kiscelli Museum. Running from October 18 to November 16, 2025, this immersive international design and all-arts series brings together creativity from across Europe and beyond.

A celebration of international design and innovation

The Design Without Borders (Határtalan Design) exhibition has become a beloved tradition on Budapest’s cultural calendar. This year’s edition showcases the work of over 200 designers, artists, and creative minds from 18 countries, all presented in thoughtfully curated thematic units. Visitors can explore a fascinating mix of design, fine art, music, and innovation in one space.

The 2025 edition puts Dutch and Polish design in the spotlight. You’ll see everything from iconic furniture pieces by Gerrit Rietveld and Roman Modzelewski to sustainable design brands and experimental contemporary art projects. The event also celebrates the story of bentwood furniture through a special Thonet collection, including historical and modern pieces from Central Europe.

A fusion of art, design, and sound

Housed in the atmospheric Church Hall of the Kiscelli Museum, the exhibition’s unique setting enhances the experience. In the apse, visitors will encounter a vibrant series of textile works inspired by contemporary composers, created in collaboration with the Transparent Sound Festival’s CentriFUGA project. This striking dialogue between visual and performing arts captures the essence of the exhibition’s mission — to cross boundaries between disciplines and generations.

Jewellery, textiles, and sustainable ideas

Alongside design objects and installations, visitors can admire an impressive contemporary jewellery selection. Works from international festivals such as the Budapest Jewellery Week, Legnica Silver Festival, and the Inflow Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition are featured, showcasing innovative and thought-provoking designs. The exhibition also highlights projects that address environmental awareness, social responsibility, and experimental craftsmanship — themes that reflect the evolving role of design in shaping a better world.

Concerts, guided tours, and special events

To make the experience even richer, the exhibition is accompanied by the 3,2,1 Classical Music Mini Festival, featuring several live performances that bridge sound and visual art. Curated tours offer visitors the chance to explore the stories, inspirations, and creative processes behind the showcased works.

Key events include:

  • November 6: Curatorial tour and performance – Pia Imbar’s CANŌGRAPHY project
  • November 7–9: 3,2,1 concert series featuring works by Chopin, Schubert, Fauré, and Polish composers such as Lutosławski and Penderecki
  • November 16: Closing event with a guided curatorial tour

Museum entry is available with a regular ticket during the day, while guided tours and concerts require a special evening program ticket.
