A Showcase of Excellence in Press Photography
This year’s Hungarian Press Photo Competition attracted an impressive 282 photographers, who collectively submitted 2,566 entries and a staggering 7,438 images. The exhibition brings together the very best of these works, selected by an international jury of renowned experts from the world of photojournalism. The result is a powerful and diverse collection that documents the realities, emotions, and turning points of life in Hungary and beyond.
For the first time, the competition included categories for street photography and street photo series, reflecting the evolving landscape of visual storytelling. Many of the entrants are freelancers, some with careers outside photography, united by a shared passion for capturing the world as they see it. This diversity of perspective makes the exhibition especially vibrant and authentic.
Award-Winning Images and Stories
The winners were announced at a festive opening ceremony on May 6, with the legendary Ernő Rubik, creator of the Rubik’s Cube, delivering the opening remarks. The exhibition’s curator, András Bánkuti, guided the selection process, ensuring a thoughtful and representative showcase of Hungarian press photography today.
