Budapest SUP Festival 2026 – Paddle Through Budapest on the Danube

Celebrate the 10th Budapest SUP Festival: A Record-Breaking Paddle on the Danube

If you’re looking for one of the most unique outdoor experiences Budapest has to offer, the 11th Budapest SUP Festival on July 4, 2026 should be at the top of your list. This is Hungary’s largest community stand-up paddleboarding event, and it takes place right in the heart of the city — on the Danube itself.

Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or have never set foot on a SUP board before, this festival welcomes everyone. With nearly 400 participants gliding through Budapest from a perspective most visitors never get to experience, it’s the kind of morning you’ll be talking about long after you’ve left the city.

What Is the Budapest SUP Festival?

SUP, or stand-up paddleboarding, is exactly what it sounds like — you stand on a wide, stable board and paddle yourself along the water. The Budapest SUP Festival turns this into a half-day group adventure, paddling 16 km along the Danube from the northern Római Part all the way down to the southern Kopaszi-gát Bay. Along the way, you’ll drift under every bridge in the city, wave to people strolling along the riverbanks, and snap a group photo with the Hungarian Parliament glowing in the background. Professional photographers and videographers capture the whole journey from the water, the shore, and even from the air.

It’s active, social, scenic, and genuinely one of the most memorable ways to see Budapest.

Event Schedule at a Glance

  • 8:00 – Registration opens at the starting point (Duna Café Grill and Drink Bar, Római Part)
  • 9:00 – Deadline to arrive if you’re renting a SUP board
  • 10:00 – Last chance to register if you have your own board
  • 10:20 – Registration closes
  • 10:45 – Mandatory safety briefing for all participants
  • 11:00 – Start (everyone must be on the water)
  • 13:20–14:00 – Arrival at Kopaszi-gát Bay, behind Café Ponyvaregény
  • 15:00 – Return shuttle bus to Római Part (for pre-registered participants)

The rain date is July 5, 2026. The event only gets cancelled in the case of lightning or windstorms — a little rain won’t stop the paddlers.

The Route

Starting from Római Part in the north, you’ll paddle with the gentle current of the Danube for approximately 16 km, arriving at the scenic Kopaszi-gát Bay in the south. The route takes you under all of Budapest’s iconic bridges and past the city’s most recognizable landmarks. After docking, you can relax, pack up your gear, and treat yourself to something from Café Ponyvaregény right at the finish line.

Parking is available at the Kopaszi-gát entrance. If you registered in advance, the return shuttle back to Római Part departs at 15:00.

Never Tried SUP Before? No Problem

First-timers are completely welcome. Free group lessons and a safety briefing are held before the start, so you’ll hit the water feeling confident. The Danube’s gentle current does a lot of the work, and the boards are wide and stable — most beginners find their footing quickly.

If you don’t own a SUP board, rental options are available through the links below. Book your board in advance, as spots fill up fast.

Safety Rules to Know
