The European Mobility Week Kicks Off In Budapest

Hey there! Have you heard about the exciting European Mobility Week happening in Budapest this September? It’s the perfect opportunity to explore eco-friendly and sustainable transportation options in the city.

Event Update: European Mobility Week 2024 Budapest – “The Space Belongs to All of Us!”

We are excited to announce that the 2024 Car-Free Weekend, previously postponed due to flood prevention measures, will now take place on October 5-6, 2024 on Vámház körút between Szabadság Bridge and Kálvin Square.
We will be promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation through vehicle demonstrations and exhibitions. The event will also feature family and children’s activities, bicycle education, mobility-themed city walks, booths from transportation service providers and civil organizations, and of course, food trucks!
This year’s European Mobility Week motto is “Space for Everyone,” focusing on the theme of shared community spaces. But what does this mean exactly? It emphasizes the importance of collectively deciding how we use public spaces to ensure everyone can move around in a pleasant, safe, and comfortable environment.
Join us for this exciting event as we explore sustainable mobility solutions and work together to create more inclusive and accessible urban spaces for all!

Our staff are continuously monitoring water levels, managing traffic changes, and providing prompt and clear information to the public. Given these circumstances, we are unable to hold the Danube riverside Car-Free Weekend on its original date. We appreciate your understanding during this challenging time. We will continue to update information about the rescheduled event here.

New Event Date: October 5-6, 2024

The Budapest Transport Center (BKK) and the Municipality of Budapest have put together a fantastic program to promote green mobility solutions. This year’s motto is “The space belongs to all of us,” focusing on shared community spaces.

During the car-free weekend, you’ll find loads of fun activities and exhibitors. The Mayor’s Office will host the Budapest Climate Agency and RenoPont, offering free building energy consultations for property owners and condominium representatives on Saturday. Don’t miss the chance to get expert advice on general home renovation questions and the Home Renovation Program. It’s free, but pre-registration is required.

For the adrenaline junkies, head over to the Salkaházi Sára embankment for the Rakpart Rush, featuring various cycling races, fixed-gear trick competitions, and cargo races. It’s going to be a thrilling spectacle!

If you’re a fan of vintage vehicles, you’re in for a treat. The Vehicle Exhibition will showcase modern and nostalgic vehicles on Vámház körút, Szabadság Bridge, and the embankment. You can even sit in the driver’s cab and experience what it was like to be a tram driver back in the day, signaling with the track bell.

For those looking to test out some cool rides, the Decathlon cycling test track is a must-visit. Try out their electric and mechanical bicycles and scooters, which make everyday urban travel a breeze. The electric cargo bike can accommodate 2 children and 1 adult simultaneously! Plus, they’ll be raffling off e-bike test weekends for lucky participants.

If you’re curious about electric scooters, swing by the Lime tent to give them a spin. They’ll also be promoting responsible riding, going beyond just offering free trials.

The MÁV-VOLÁN group will have a Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric bus on display, and their tent will feature railway safety games, gifts, quizzes, coloring activities, and face painting. It’s perfect for families with kids.

When you need a break from all the excitement, relax at the MOHU Budapest tent. The Bookshelf project allows anyone to find an exciting read to take home or bring their old favorite book to give it a chance to find a new owner. You can also learn about the operation of Budapest’s selective waste collection yards, where you can responsibly dispose of waste in a sustainable way.

The National Development Center will be there with interactive programs, short film screenings, quizzes, and games. Discover European Union developments, such as creating a more environmentally conscious, greener Europe and a better-connected Europe.
