Budapest’s 26th Jewish Cultural Festival Returns This September
If you’re visiting Budapest this fall, don’t miss the 26th annual Jewish Cultural Festival taking place at some of the city’s most beautiful synagogues. This vibrant celebration showcases the centuries-old influence of Jewish tradition on Hungarian culture through music, literature, humor, and art.
A highlight will be the stunning Rumbach Street Synagogue, recently restored to its full splendor. The festival kicks off here on September 8th with a literary music performance titled “Is There Still a Home There?” featuring renowned Hungarian actors and musicians. Other nights will transport you into the world of bar piano (Sep 10), pay tribute to composer Henry Mancini (Sep 11), and feature classical performances like Bernstein’s Serenade for Violin and Orchestra (Sep 12).
Experience the unique fusion of Jewish and Hungarian culture through events like a jazzy reimagining of Fiddler on the Roof (Sep 15), an interdisciplinary show evoking the life of Marc Chagall (Sep 16), an illusionist show (Sep 17), and an improvisational gastro-theatre performance exploring the history of Jewish Budapest (Sep 18).
The Jewish Cultural Festival is not just a celebration of culture, but a testament to the peaceful coexistence of cultures in Hungary. Join this unforgettable journey through the beauty of Hungarian, Jewish, and Central-Eastern European traditions at some of Budapest’s most magical venues. An experience not to be missed!
