An Evening of Dance and Storytelling: María Pagés Compañía's De Scheherezade at Müpa Budapest

Prepare to be transported to a world of myth and feminine strength with De Scheherezade, a grand dance production by the world-renowned María Pagés Compañía. On April 10, 2025, the Festival Theatre at Müpa Budapest will come alive with a performance that transcends the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, exploring the complex lives and fearless spirits of women throughout history. This performance is produced by Müpa Budapest.

Beyond the Tales: Unveiling the Lives of Women

De Scheherezade delves deeper than the enchanting stories of Scheherazade, presenting twelve scenes that each portray the life of a woman. These are not your typical fairy tale heroines. Instead, the production unveils the mythic patterns behind women like Athena, Sappho, Medea, Blimunda, Bernarda, and even Carmen, all characters who defy convention and embrace their complexities. These women, portrayed by María Pagés and her talented company of dancers, are tough yet gentle, strict yet humble, and always, unapologetically, fearless.

A Fusion of Flamenco, Moroccan Music, and More

The atmosphere of De Scheherezade is a captivating blend of traditional flamenco and Moroccan music, expertly crafted by Rubén Levaniegos, Sergio Menem, and David Móñiz. This unique soundscape is further enriched by elements of Bizet and Rimsky-Korsakov, alongside subtle touches of popular music, creating a truly immersive and unforgettable experience.
