GeekCon Budapest Is Coming — and It’s Going to Be Gloriously Nerdy

GeekCon Budapest 2025: The Ultimate Celebration of Geek Culture

If you happen to be in Budapest on May 30, 2026, and you consider yourself even remotely geeky, then cancel your plans, charge your phone for photos, and make your way to the Lurdy Event Centre — because GeekCon is taking over, and it’s bringing everything short of an actual lightsaber.

GeekCon Budapest isn’t just another pop culture fair. It’s a full-day community celebration for gamers, anime fans, film buffs, cosplayers, and anyone who’s ever argued passionately about which House they’d be sorted into. Running from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, this one-day event packs an almost unreasonable amount of fun into a single venue, and it genuinely has something for everyone — whether you’re a hardcore geek or just geek-curious.

What’s Actually Happening There?

Let’s start with the obvious crowd-pleasers. Harry Potter-themed activities, Squid Game challenges, and Star Wars experiences hosted by the Mandómania crew are all on the programme. Yes, you read that right — you can go from Hogwarts to the Death Star before lunchtime. There’s also a pirate world zone, statue painting, and hands-on craft workshops for those who prefer their excitement at a slightly lower decibel level.

The main stage will be buzzing throughout the day with live performances, a K-pop dance show, quiz games, and celebrity guest appearances — including popular Hungarian YouTubers. If you’ve been wanting to understand why K-pop is genuinely taking over the world, this is a solid opportunity to witness it firsthand.

Level Up: Gaming Like a True Nerd

Tucked inside the Galaxy Zone, you’ll find one of the event’s most exciting corners — the RenToPlay gaming station. This isn’t just a couple of old consoles gathering dust in a corner. We’re talking unlimited playtime all day on PlayStation, Xbox, and VR setups, all wrapped in a sci-fi theme that makes the whole experience feel like you’ve accidentally wandered onto a spaceship. Whether you want to show off your gaming skills or have absolutely no idea what you’re doing (both are valid), the RenToPlay stand welcomes all skill levels. Just sit down, pick up a controller, and let the outside world dissolve.

There’s also a dedicated Nintendo stand and a full VR experience zone for those who want to step even further into another dimension.

Meet the Voices Behind Your Favourite Characters

Here’s something genuinely special that even non-Hungarian speakers will appreciate: GeekCon is bringing together four of Hungary’s most beloved voice actors for a single afternoon of panels, behind-the-scenes stories, and signing sessions.

Szabó Máté — the Hungarian voice of Damon Salvatore, Sheldon Cooper, and Dean Winchester — will be there alongside Vida Sára, who voices Eleven from Stranger Things. Czető Roland, known for bringing Jon Snow and Vegeta to life in Hungarian, joins the lineup, as does Kenéz Ágoston, the voice of Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece. Even if you don’t speak Hungarian, watching fans meet the voices behind characters they grew up loving is genuinely heartwarming — and a little chaotic in the best possible way.

Shop Like Your Wallet Has No Limits

The GeekMarket section of the event is where your self-control will truly be tested. A curated selection of vendors will be selling everything from Funko POP figures and rare collectibles (The Collect Base) to hand-crocheted and 3D-printed geek creations (Slardák Művek). CreativeEvie Dreams is bringing custom gamer accessories — think mouse pads, mugs, and tote bags with unique designs — while Create By Anna will have handmade leather goods, notebooks, and keychains that make for genuinely original souvenirs. If you pick up a premium ticket, you’ll even score 10% off at select vendor stands, which is the universe rewarding your good taste.

Getting There and Getting In

The event takes place at Lurdy Event Centre in Budapest, a large, easy-to-reach shopping and events complex on the Pest side of the city, close to the Danube. Tickets are available in advance online or at the door on the day itself, so there’s no excuse for missing out on a last-minute whim. Doors open at 11:00 AM and close at 7:00 PM — that’s eight hours of geekery, which should be plenty of time to do everything at least twice.

Whether you’re travelling solo, dragging along a sceptical partner, or navigating Budapest with a family in tow, GeekCon is one of those rare events where everyone finds their thing within the first ten minutes. Come for the cosplay, stay for the VR, leave with a handmade Luffy keychain and zero regrets.
