Taste of Transylvania Festival Comes to Hungary for the First Time

A Weekend of Flavors, Culture, and Traditions in Szentendre’s Open-Air Museum

This spring, something truly special is cooking in Szentendre — Taste of Transylvania, the famed Transylvanian gastro-cultural festival, arrives in Hungary for the very first time. From March 27–29, 2026, the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum (Skanzen) will host an unforgettable celebration of food, music, and heritage in its picturesque “Transylvania” section.

The festival has already become a beloved tradition in Romania since its debut in 2022, where it brings together top chefs, local producers, and food lovers against stunning mountain backdrops. This year, that spirit crosses borders — giving Hungarian visitors a chance to experience Transylvania’s rich culinary diversity up close.

Across three delicious days, visitors can meet some of the best chefs from Transylvania, Romania, and Hungary — including Jenő Rácz (Rumour, M’EAT, Ypsilon), Kornél Kaszás (Babel), Szabi the Baker, and Romanian star chef Alex Petricean (NOUA). Traditional Transylvanian home cooks like the famous “Róza mama” will join Michelin-starred chefs for a live cooking show called Örömfőzde, where creative teams prepare dishes from the same ingredients in entirely different styles. Naturally, visitors can taste these creations too!

But Taste of Transylvania isn’t just about great food. The festival’s atmosphere will be enriched with concerts, film screenings, and book launches — offering a full cultural immersion into the spirit of Transylvania. Expect performances by 4S Street (Friday), Bagossy Brothers Company (Saturday), and the popular Alma band (Sunday), perfect for families and festival-goers alike.

You’ll also find a vibrant producer’s market filled with artisanal goods and Easter ingredients, plus wine, cheese, jam, and handmade crafts straight from Transylvanian farms. Whether you’re after a family outing, gourmet adventure, or just a taste of something different near Budapest, this event is a must.
