Budapest’s Annual Bulk Waste Collection: 2025 Schedule and Changes

The annual curbside bulk waste collection, known as “lomtalanítás” in Hungarian, is set to begin in Budapest for 2025. This year, the process will follow the familiar system, with MOHU publishing the collection dates for each district on their official website.
Schedule and Districts
MOHU has released the dates for the first three districts where bulk waste collection will commence in early March:
- District V (Belváros-Lipótváros )
- District I (Buda Castle)
- District XXI (Csepel)
The company promises to continuously update their website with schedules for the remaining districts.
Collection Process
Residents are advised to place their bulk waste on the street in front of their homes only on the designated day after 6 PM. This measure aims to maintain the cleanliness and order of Budapest’s public spaces. It’s important to note that placing waste outside the specified time frame is considered a violation of public space regulations.
Acceptable and Prohibited Items
During the bulk waste collection, only large household items that have become unnecessary, such as furniture, mattresses, and carpets, should be placed on the street. Items that are strictly prohibited include:
- Daily household waste
- Recyclable packaging materials
- Construction and demolition debris
- Hazardous waste
- Electronic waste
- Industrial or service-related waste
Future Changes
While this year’s collection will proceed as usual, a reform that has sparked public debate is on the horizon. The proposed change would replace the current model with a system where bulk waste can only be accumulated at designated collection points. However, this reform will not be implemented universally this year.
Importance of Compliance
MOHU emphasizes the importance of following the guidelines to maintain the cleanliness of Budapest’s public spaces. Residents are urged to carefully read the official information letter sent to their address and adhere to the specified date and time for waste disposal.
As the bulk waste collection program unfolds, Budapest residents are encouraged to stay informed about the dates for their respective districts and to participate responsibly in this annual urban cleaning initiative.
