The Magic of Hungarian Nature: Photographer of the Year Exhibition in Budapest

If you love photography and nature, don’t miss one of Budapest’s most enchanting free exhibitions this winter! Between January 5 and February 1, 2026, the Photographer of the Year – Nature Photography Exhibition will be on display at the Városliget Visitor Center, right next to Heroes’ Square. The exhibition is organized by Varázslatos Magyarország (Magical Hungary) and features the most captivating nature photographs taken by Hungarian photographers over the past year.
A breathtaking journey through nature
The exhibition showcases 124 stunning photographs selected from nearly 3,000 submissions to the Photographer of the Year competition. Through these images, visitors can explore the magical and sometimes mysterious beauty of both Hungary’s natural landscapes and the wider world. From misty forests and vibrant wetlands to fascinating wildlife portraits, the collection offers a deep appreciation for the fragile wonders of nature.
The exhibition is free to visit daily from 10:00 to 18:00, making it an ideal stop during a leisurely stroll in Budapest’s City Park (Városliget). You’ll find the venue at the Városliget Visitor Center, located near the Ethnographic Museum’s Heroes’ Square entrance.
The spirit behind Magical Hungary
The Photographer of the Year competition has a rich history dating back over 30 years. Since 2025, it has been managed by Varázslatos Magyarország, an organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and protecting natural beauty through photography. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to encourage photographers to inspire conservation by capturing the essence of the natural world.
By uniting Hungary’s two most prestigious nature photography competitions—the Hungarian Nature Photography Grand Prize and the Photographer of the Year—the organization provides creative challenges and international exposure for photographers all year round. Many of these artists have already achieved recognition on the world stage.
