Experience Komoróczky Tamás’s SHOWCASE in Budapest’s Móricz Zsigmond Square Underpass

A hidden gem awaits art lovers beneath one of Buda’s busiest intersections. Between January 22 and February 16, visitors can explore SHOWCASE [Ten Notes on a Summer’s Day], a site-specific installation by renowned Hungarian artist Tamás Komoróczky. The exhibition transforms three formerly unused shop windows of the Móricz Zsigmond Square underpass into a unique visual and conceptual artwork.

A musical concept brought to life through space

Presented by the 1111 Gallery, this pop-up exhibition builds on the idea of a “song cycle.” Just like a musical composition made of interwoven melodies, Komoróczky’s installation blends three window spaces into one continuous visual rhythm. The subtitle Ten Notes on a Summer’s Day was inspired by an iconic 1986 piece from the anarcho-punk band Crass, reflecting on anti-fascist, anti-capitalist, and anti-authoritarian themes.

Komoróczky’s work invites visitors to slow down and reimagine the experience of an everyday space. The installation turns the narrow, low halls of the underpass into a stage of imagination and critical reflection—encouraging us to rethink the relationship between humanity, technology, and artistic expression.
