33rd Summer Olympics: Hungarians Cheer for Their Favorites in Budapest

As the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris draw closer, the excitement in Hungary is palpable. The streets of Budapest are buzzing with anticipation as Hungarians prepare to cheer on their athletes competing on the grandest stage of all. With speculation that Hungary could collect at least 19 gold medals, the nation is ready to celebrate their athletes’ successes.

Before the Olympics begin, Budapest will host the second and final stop of the Olympic Qualifier Series from June 20-23. This event will determine which athletes qualify for Paris 2024 in breaking, BMX freestyle, skateboarding, and sport climbing. The Budapest event promises to be a celebration of sport and culture, combining music, fashion, and art with the sporting competition. Fans and athletes alike will have the opportunity to watch and try different sports, experience epic moments together, and meet new people.

During the Summer Olympics in Paris (July 26 – August 11), the excitement will be felt in the heart of Budapest. Similar to previous major sporting events, several locations in the Hungarian capital will set up large screens for sports fans to cheer on their favorites together. The most popular gathering spot is Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere), where hundreds of people come together to watch the events. Other popular locations include Erzsébet Square and the City Park (Városliget), both excellent for enjoying sporting events under the open sky on summer evenings.

Hungarians pay special attention to the Olympics, as their athletes regularly win 8-10 gold medals, eliciting heightened national pride among the population. Therefore, Olympic broadcasts are expected to generate particularly high interest in the Hungarian capital.

The 33rd Summer Olympic Games will once again be held in Europe, with the French capital hosting this year’s most important series of competitions. Among the candidate cities at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was Budapest, but Hungary withdrew its bid in 2017. The locations for both the 2024 and 2028 Summer Olympics were announced simultaneously, with Paris hosting in 2024 and Los Angeles in 2028.

As the vibrant summer days approach, Hungary is ready to join hands with the world in this grand festivity, celebrating the power of sports to bring people together, transcending borders and cultures.
