Valyo Community Viaduct: A Unique Public Space in Budapest

This summer, visitors have the opportunity to explore a unique addition to the Budapest’s attractions: the Valyo Community Viaduct. Located beneath the iconic tram line 2, this formerly closed-off space has been transformed into a bustling community hub and exhibition area.

From June 22 to October 23, the Viaduct will be open to the public every weekend from 10 AM to 8 PM, offering a wide range of activities and events for visitors to enjoy. The best part? Admission is completely free!

The Valyo Community Viaduct is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives. For decades, the vast rooms beneath the tram line remained locked and inaccessible. Now, thanks to the efforts of the Valyo team, these spaces have been brought to life as part of the RAKPART~2023 project. Visitors can expect a diverse array of programs, including film screenings, clothing swaps, workshops hosted by civil organizations, board games, and DIY workshops.

In addition to the community activities, the Viaduct also serves as a venue for live music performances. On Sundays, the space comes alive with the sounds of various genres, from dub and psydub to ambient and techno. Talented artists such as Flying Elephant, Dharma Beatz, TrikOsk, and Selecta Puli take the stage, creating a unique and immersive atmosphere for visitors to enjoy.

The Valyo team’s mission is to encourage people to engage with the Danube River and its surrounding areas. By transforming the Viaduct into a vibrant community space, they aim to foster a sense of connection between the city, its residents, and the natural environment. The Viaduct serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating the Danube, which is not only a vital part of Budapest but also connects 10 countries and 81 million people along its journey from the Black Forest to the Black Sea.

As you explore Budapest, be sure to add the Valyo Community Viaduct to your itinerary. This one-of-a-kind public space offers a glimpse into the city’s creative spirit and community-driven initiatives. Whether you’re interested in attending a workshop, enjoying live music, or simply soaking up the unique atmosphere, the Viaduct promises an unforgettable experience.

So, head down to the Valyo Community Viaduct, celebrate the Danube, and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Budapest. With free admission and a wide range of activities to choose from, it’s the perfect addition to your Hungarian adventure.
