Lakeside Salsa Night — July 16: Dance Under the Stars in City Park

Lakeside Salsa

Budapest’s City Park turns into a Caribbean dance floor on July 16th, as the Lakeside Salsa party lights up the water beside the iconic Vajdahunyad Castle. This isn’t your average night out. The party takes place on a stage built directly over the Boating Lake, meaning dancers spend the evening swaying to salsa, bachata, and kizomba with a floodlit castle glowing in the background and the lake shimmering beneath their feet.

The night kicks off gently, with gates opening at 19:30 and a beginner-friendly salsa class running from 20:00 to 21:00. Led by professional dance instructors, the class is designed for complete newcomers, so there’s no need to know a single step beforehand. Once the lesson wraps up, the real party begins. From 21:00 until 1:00 in the morning, resident DJ Dee takes over, blending salsa and Cuban salsa with bachata, merengue, and fun guided dance animations that keep everyone moving regardless of skill level.

The crowd is known for being wonderfully open and welcoming, making it an easy, low-pressure way for tourists to meet locals and fellow travelers while picking up a few new dance moves. The event takes place at the City Park Ice Rink and Boating Lake promenade, with entry through the Ice Rink’s main gate. All information is available in both Hungarian and English, so language is never a barrier. Regular tickets apply, and since the venue sits right beside Vajdahunyad Castle, it’s easy to pair the evening with an earlier stroll through the park or a relaxing dip at the nearby Széchenyi Thermal Bath.
