Jazzbois feat. Corto.alto: A Night of Post-Jazz Innovation at Müpa Budapest

Jazzbois feat. Corto.alto: A Night of Post-Jazz Innovation at Müpa Budapest

Budapest has always been a city where musical boundaries blur and creativity thrives — and on 6 March 2026, that spirit takes center stage at Müpa Budapest. The dynamic Hungarian trio Jazzbois will headline their first major concert hall performance in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall, joined by UK multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall, the creative force behind the Mercury Prize-nominated project Corto.alto.

This evening promises a captivating mix of sound, rhythm, and visual artistry — a bold fusion of jazz, hip hop, and electronic elements that reflects the cutting edge of the international post-jazz scene.

From Budapest beginnings to global acclaim

It all started right here in 2017, when Jazzbois made their debut at the Müpa Jazz Showcase. Since then, their rise has been nothing short of meteoric. By 2023, they were collaborating on stage with Kaláka, one of Hungary’s most beloved folk ensembles, and within just a few years, the trio was performing on the world’s most prestigious jazz stages — including Leverkusener Jazztage, the Montreux Jazz FestivalJazz à Vienne, and the Montreal Jazz Festival.

Their electrifying sound — a blend of organic improvisation, modern groove, and psychedelic atmosphere — has caught the attention of critics and audiences alike. Even British jazz star Jamie Cullum dedicated an episode of his BBC Radio Show to Jazzbois, featuring a live conversation with bassist Viktor Sági. Their albums, streamed millions of times online, have made them one of Hungary’s most exciting musical exports.

The lineup and the sound

The trio behind Jazzbois is made up of:

  • Viktor Sági – bass guitar
  • Bencze Molnár – keyboards
  • Tamás Czirják – drums

Together, they create a rich, rhythmic, and often unpredictable sound world where progressive jazz meets hip hop beats and electronic layering. For this special performance, they’ll be joined by Liam Shortall, the Scottish-Spanish composer, trombonist, and electronic artist who leads Corto.alto, one of the UK’s most forward-thinking post-jazz collectives.

Shortall’s presence ensures an evening of genre-bending collaboration where brass, synth, and rhythm collide. With both acts known for their fearless improvisation and explosive live performances, there’s no telling where the music might go — and that’s exactly the point.

A visual experience unlike any other

Adding another layer to the experience, the evening will feature a visual installation by artist Balázs Lobot, designed exclusively for this concert. The visuals will complement Jazzbois’ genre-defying sound with immersive, abstract imagery that brings the music’s mood to life. Expect a multisensory performance where sound and sight merge into one unrepeatable event.
