Budapest Airport Plans to Lift Ban on Liquids in Hand Luggage

Budapest Airport is working on implementing new technology that will make your travel experience more convenient. The airport is planning to lift the ban on carrying liquids in hand luggage, thanks to the introduction of high-resolution CT scanners.

Since 2006, airports worldwide have been enforcing strict regulations on liquids in carry-on bags due to a foiled terrorist plot involving liquid explosives. Passengers have been limited to carrying liquids, aerosols, and gels in containers of no more than 100 milliliters, which must be placed in a clear, resealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity of one liter.

However, with the advent of advanced CT scanners capable of distinguishing between dangerous and non-dangerous contents, several airports have already begun lifting these restrictions. Airports such as Milan Linate, Rome Fiumicino, London City, and Helsinki Airport have announced that they will no longer impose limitations on the amount of liquids passengers can bring in their hand luggage.

Budapest Airport has also been testing CT scanner technology and plans to implement it when Terminal 1 reopens. Although an exact date for the terminal’s reopening has not been provided, as the necessary permits are still being obtained, the airport’s management is working towards making this technology available to passengers in the near future.

Once the new CT scanners are in place, travelers will no longer need to worry about disposing of their water bottles or other liquid containers at security checkpoints. This will not only make the security screening process more efficient but also reduce the amount of plastic waste generated at the airport.

As Budapest Airport continues to modernize its facilities and adopt cutting-edge technology, foreign visitors to Hungary can look forward to a more streamlined and stress-free travel experience. Stay tuned for updates on when the liquid ban will be officially lifted at Budapest Airport.
